Cathy Breisacher

Cathy Breisacher has been a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators since 2000. She is also the contact person for membership questions for the Western PA SCBWI chapter.   Petunia Pepper’s Picture Day is her first picture book to be published.  It was released on July 1, 2010.

Cathy enjoyed writing stories when she was in elementary school and recalls an English assignment where she had to write and illustrate a children’s book for younger students.  She still has that very first “book”, albeit tattered and torn.  Her fascination with fun, humorous, and meaningful children’s books continued through college.  Her master’s thesis paper dealt with the positive effects of bibliotherapy and other creative therapies in dealing with children’s self esteem.  She had the opportunity to present this paper, along with one of her graduate professors, at the American School Counselor’s Association Annual Conference in Pittsburgh.

Cathy is a high school guidance counselor in Hollidaysburg, PA.  She is also a youth leader at her church along with her husband, Chuck.

Cathy attends writer’s conferences every year.  She also completed two writing courses through the Institute for Children’s Literature.  Cathy simply loves picture books and spends time in libraries and book stores browsing the picture book shelves.

Poor Petunia Pepper! Every year, disaster strikes on her school picture day. Puffy hair, pumpkin-style smiles and pink eye help her take pictures that only her family could love. But this year, Petunia promises herself things are going to change. She carefully plans for the perfect picture day. But when she misses the school bus, a series of misadventures begins that leads to yet another picture day fiasco. Will Petunia’s perfect picture be ruined, or will she finally take a picture everybody in her class will love?
